We are big believers in how important your home is to you. The opportunity to commemorate this in miniature form is our pleasure. We make models of anything ranging from an office block, apartments or a factory, to luxury developments, caravans and canal boats… and everything in between! Nothing is too big a challenge for us so please get in touch with any queries, we are always on hand to make this an incredible personalised service.
Our Creative Team
We are a family run business formed over lockdown. Being family allows us to be completely transparent with one another so that our standards remain at their utmost. We come from a very creative family so Shrink my House was a long overdue outlet for us.
Our Process
First we receive your order enquiry form and pictures to give you a quote. The models start at £350 for our more modest FRONT only models and we quote your house based on a variety of things such as the footprint size, complexity of certain features and landscaping etc.
Once the order is confirmed we receive a 50% deposit which secures your slot.
The house is cut in our family workshop in Worcester. Uncle David does most of the cutting as he loves a challenge but we all help out when we need to.
At this point we’re left with the shell of a house, essentially the basic shape which we often build up on and always cover with brick, tile or paint. This is usually Alison’s job, she can match any colour and is an expert and building up more complex roof lines. At this stage we’re using materials like balsa wood, Mount board and model making textures. This step is where a lot of time comes in with more complex houses, understanding the shape and scale of the house and it’s roof is an enormous job. This is why clear picture of anything out of the ordinary helps.
With the features themselves, we start with the windows which is Alex’s speciality, probably because it is the most fiddly and she has the best eyes for it! We use a variety of techniques and materials depending on the windows but they are all finished with a thick acetate which acts as the window pane. Most of our window frames are also hand painted but this does vary sometimes depending on colour.
After this, we make all other features for the house, front doors can take hours if they’re grand enough, as can stonework and bespoke signage for example.
This step pulls together the full house. At this point we add all flashing, guttering, window ledges, corner stones, cladding and shutters etc.
Whilst all of this is going on, Rachel begins to source a base and put the landscape together. This could be mapping out complex gardens, sourcing specific plant species or moulding tiny gates and walls!
When the majority of the house itself is complete we usually hand them over to Rachel who is resident gardener! Here we map out the landscaping and source driveway and patio patterns. If your property has lots of outbuildings we do the above steps to make sheds, garages, stables and summer houses which usually slot nicely into the footprint (If we’ve got our measurements right)
Once the house is complete we take some pictures and VERY CAREFULLY package up the houses to be shipped straight to your door!
